5-A-Day

5-a-Day seeks to improve the health and lives of South Africans by inspiring them to become more health conscious. The Department of Health has made the 5-a-Day for Better Health Trust an official partner, and it also holds membership with the International Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (IFAVA).

Ceres juice products are ideal for the health conscious members seeking to improve their all-round well-being. Ceres are packed full of all the vitamins, nutrients and minerals needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • For breakfast, add fruit to cereal, porridge or low-fat yoghurt
  • Frozen fruit and veg, as well as canned fruit and veg count towards your 5-a-Day
  • Choose canned fruit in juice rather than sugary syrup, and canned veg in water without added salt or sugar
  • Add fresh, frozen or canned fruit and veg to meals
  • Add some crunch to your sandwiches with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber or grated carrots
  • For party snacks with dips use sticks of cucumber, peppers, carrot, cauliflower or broccoli
  • Swap sugary snacks for a piece of fruit
  • Add beans, lentils and pulses to stews, bakes and salads
  • With your main meal, have a side dish of salad or veg
  • One glass (150ml) of unsweetened 100% fruit juice counts towards your 5-a-DAY
  • Make a quick smoothie in a blender using your favourite fresh or frozen fruit
